I'm assuming this site just launched, because the forums are sparse, but it's a million times more interesting than other "academic" sites out there. GAM3R 7H30RY has a focus on the more critical theory behind games and the way people play them. it's a little deep for me in some places, but i dig the intentions. here is a example of my first post on their forums. if you listen to the podcast, you probably know i don't really talk like this, my brain was chugging after writing this. (the game in question is Katamari Damacy, i spent a few hours over the weekend playing and have the memory fresh in my head.) there is a underlying theme in the game, one of quiet, hidden terror. although the game masks the act of voracious consumption with music and quaint, fluffy images; despair is the final emotion that rises to the top when those final seconds are reached, when the haunting call of the sirens send the prince into a final, frenzied panic to get [i]just-one-more...

Since i've gotten Guitar Hero, i've wondered how some other great songs would play, like hotel california or cliffs of dover. I hope some person out there without a job and with a SHITLOAD of free time can make my dreams come true. I had a podcast ready to upload, and cuz i got busy planting spring flowers and tomato plants, i got broadsided by the 1000 lb. gorilla that is E3. i quickly realized that my entire podcast was outdated before it even saw the light of day. for that reason, i have decided to ab0rt the podcast and record impressions of the e3 stuff and possibly put out 2 podcasts in a row out this weekend. then again, i have a full plate of wedding stuff to take care of, so all this might get pushed back even more. the Halo 3 trailer was weak, i thought there was going to be a 2 min with gameplay footage???? oh well. Gears of War looks fucking great, though.

Xbox 360 Fanboy is confirming the apperance of a 2 minute Halo 3 video at E3 next week . I guess i should be way more excited than i am. Tuesday the 2nd of May, xbox live will be down for some dashboard updates. as usual, they're not saying WHAT is being updated, or why. fucking rain. it's been raining in chicago for the last 24 hours, and i'm getting sick of it. for anyone who uses yahoo mail, here's a step by st ep to get into the new yahoo mail beta test. it just looks more like gmail now. i finally got the patch for mlb 2k6, and even with the fucking patch, the gameplay is still broken. i guess expecting fielders to react is too much to ask. but hey, they did release some gamerpics, so the sox logo is going on my gamercard NOW!!!!!

kotaku.com pointed me to a audio-only game by Studio Hunty. You use the Xbox 360 wired controller (it's required) to move a monster in a circular pit, finding your prey by the sound of their breathing and if you get close enough, their heartbeat. Playing with headphones really helps, since you must be able to tell if they are on your left or right. A short but sweet game. Get the game here. Creator's blog here
